"A Chaotic Affair" was a participatory installation exploring chaos. It consisted of a
42’ pendulum, suspended by a steel pyramidal tripod. The pendulum had a
magnetic base, capable of pulling 450 pounds. I fabricated smooth, domed eye-like units fastened to the desert floor to house more magnets, so the pendulum bounced, turned, slowed, and slingshotted while navigating the magnetic field.
Pushing the pendulum increased its chaotic movements, further engaging the audience. A platform at the base of the pendulum was mounted as a carnival ride, allowing for the direct experience of chaos.
